During Pope Benedict XVI’s trip to London this September, Cardinal Walter Kasper noted two things about London: it’s secular and parts of it resemble a Third World country. While the politically correct were quick to condemn Kasper and the Vatican was even quicker to exhibit its pro-Third World, anti-racism bona fides, Kasper’s two statements taken together are noteworthy in that they demonstrate two antagonistic aspects of the modern world. The First World is secular; the Third World is religious.

How can London be both? What happens when you mix First World secularism and Third World religion? In particular, what happens when you import the Third World to the First—as in London? Often, the Third World tries to convert the First, regardless if the evangelizers are Christian or Muslim. While Westerns may be more shocked by Third World Muslims because they expect them to be different, they often are more disoriented by Third World Christians because they are so different from what they expect. The Christianity that the Third World brings to the West is unlike anything ever seen before—just as alien as Islam.

INTRODUCTION

In On Community, a recent pamphlet on Gustav Landauer, Larry Gambone suggested the need for an "antipolitical movement" to dismantle the state, in order to eliminate obstacles to non-statist alternatives. It was no longer possible, he argued, merely to act outside the state framework while treating it as irrelevant. To do so entailed the risk that "you might end up like the folks at Waco." In an earlier work, Sane Anarchy, he suggested a few items for the agenda of such a movement. I now submit a list of my own (after a few pages of preferatory comment), as a basis for discussion.

Many anarchists oppose in principle such use of the political process for anarchist ends. It is unethical, they say, for anarchists to participate in the political process. Voting entails selecting a representative to exercise coercive force in our name; and appealing to such representatives for action is in effect a recognition of their legitimacy. This is a view shared by many varieties of anarchists. At the left end of the spectrum, anarcho-syndicalists prefer to ignore the state; hence the Wobblies' split with De Leon and the elimination of the "political clause" from the IWW Preamble. Many individualist anarchists, voluntaryists, and right-libertarians (Wendy McElroy, for instance) also take this position. The only acceptable course is to withdraw all consent and legitimacy from the state, until "the last one out turns off the lights."

The problem with this line of argument is that the state is an instrument of exploitation by a ruling class. And exploiters cannot, as a group, be ethically "educated" into abandoning exploitation, because they have a very rational self-interest in continuing it. If most ordinary people simply withdraw consent and abandon the political process altogether, the ruling class will just drop the pretense of popular control and resort to open repression. So long as they control the state apparatus, a small minority of dupes from the producing classes, along with well-paid police and military jackboots, will enable them to control the populace through terror. A majority of Italian workers may have supported the factory occupations of 1920, but that didn't stop the black shirts, paid with capitalist money, from restoring the bosses' control.

But I'm not calling for "anarchist politicians" to run for office and exercise political power, like those who served the Generalitat in Catalonia. Our involvement in politics should take the form of pressure groups and lobbying, to subject the state to as much pressure as possible from the outside.

The answer, then, is active engagement to dismantle the interventionist state, without which exploitation would be impossible. This can be done only by broad-based, ad hoc coalitions, formed on an issue-by-issue basis. A good example is the ACLU-NRA alliance against Janet Reno's police state. The congressional opposition to the Reichstag Enabling Act (oops--USA Patriot Act) of 2001 includes elements as disparate as Paul Wellstone and Bob Barr. Keith Preston argues that a viable anti-state movement will have to get beyond obsession with right and left.

The Australian War Crimes Trials and investigations (1942-51)

I recently became aware of a published overview of the Australian War Crimes Trials and Investigations, by D.C.S.Sissons, which is available as a PDF, just Google the title of this post.
It's truly fascinating, we have on the one hand an Australian diplomatic effort to try the Japanese Emperor which was rebuffed and finally rejected outright by the other allies, their reason being that the security and stability of post war Japan would be so undermined that it would be necessary to garrison the nation with upwards of a million allied troops.
Then we have the rigid and, for want of a better term "straight laced" attitude of the Australian war crimes tribunals toward natural justice and particularly to questions of chain of command in relation to Japanese atrocities.
This was a remarkable contrast to the proceedings in Europe which resulted in a prolonged and horiffic ordeal for the German people and those of Eastern Europe, be they innocent civilians or combatants.
I was amazed to learn that the Australian government had prosecuted and executed Japanese war criminals on behalf of captured Indian and Chinese Nationals who had been forcibly transferred to Papua New Guinea, which was then under Australian jurisdiction.
Astonishingly the question of whether the Indian P.O.W's who actually volunteered for Japan's "Indian National Army" were enemy combatants was resolved in the negative due to the extreme duress under which the Indians were placed.
The Australian trials were conducted as far as possible in the locales in which crimes had occurred and under military law , which meant that after 1949 Japanese P.O.W's could only be sentenced to death for offences which would attract the same penalty for an Australian soldier so accused.
In all 296 trials were conducted resulting in 644 convictions, 148 sentences of Death by hanging or firing squad with the remainder of the guilty receiving sentences of between six months and life in prison.
It's notable than many of the the most gruesome and high profile atrocities and massacres committed by the Japanese against Australians and their allies went unpunished, due mainly to the high attrition rate among Japanese servicemen and the suicides of many of the commanders and junior officers.
The Imperial Japanese Army, by their own account behaved in a manner which seems incredible today but, as the Sissons paper shows, in stomach turning detail was all too real.

The only thing most of them has ever done for Oz, is waste money, & reduce our enjoyment of our country of birth.

These "Fringe elements", the Pro White Genocide crowd are putting themselves in a very dangerous position, we know from history that the legal situation in White countries can change in a very short time.
Calling for Genocide of White people by Racial Assimilation is a very silly idea because eventually it's going to catch up with them, they might find themselves before a legal tribunal one day and as we've seen, you don't walk away from a Genocide charge, it's the big one.
International Law provides a very broad definition of Genocide, Conspiracy to commit genocide as well as Incitement to commit Genocide and Human Rights Tribunals are designed to convict people.
